Before the Olympic Games Jerzy took part in Open Castilla Y Leon Challenger, Segovia, Spain. He lost to Luca Vanni 6:2, 6(3):7, 5:7.

Then, after long haul Jerzy got to Rio de Janeiro. JJ had a very tight match with G. Muller but he was defeated 7:5, 1:6, 6(10):7.

The last tournament before going to the USA was Meerbusch Challenger. Jerzy lost in the quarter-final to C. Geens 3:6, 7:6(5), 3:6, after matches with F. Horansky 6:1, 6:2 and G. Gigounon 6:1, 3:6, 6:3.
